What is this lesson?

Sports! Let's play sports. Hit a hole-in-one in golf, shoot hoops in basketball, and score a field goal in football! At the same time, learn the sentences you'll need to talk about the sport you love. Can you play soccer? Do you play tennis? When do you play hockey?

This DVD contains several closely related lessons. This lesson and the lesson Do You Play Music? both build off of the key sentence patterns "Can you play," "Do you play," and "When do you play." Learning sports is important, but learning these three sentences and how to use them is critical.

How do I teach this lesson?

The DVD lesson lays out a basic format for teaching this lesson, starting with the three sentence patterns, "When do you play," "Do you play," and "Can you play." The focus of this lesson is most heavily on the first sentence pattern, "When do you play." (Do You Play Music? and Can You Ride a Bike? lessons, also on this DVD, focus on the other two sentences). There are four times of day that are taught in answer to the question "When do you play": morning, afternoon, evening, and night. This goal is to make the connection between doing an activity, such as playing golf, with a time. Once students have learned all the lessons in this DVD, they will have a firm knowledge of time, how it relates to an activity, and how to communicate these concepts.

Flashcards are very useful for teaching this lesson. This lesson introduces a lot of material, much of which will be developed more fully in later lessons.
