What is this lesson?

Count the eggs. One egg, two eggs, three eggs. Learn how to count ten objects one after another!

Even though this lesson is about counting eggs, you can use the same concept and count anything. One hat, two hats, three hats. One pig, two pigs, three pigs. One teacher, two teachers, three teachers. The lesson is JUST ONE example of things you can count.
This lesson builds off of the 1-10 Numbers lesson, also on this DVD.

How do I teach this lesson?

This lesson teaches counting from 1 to 10 using objects, not just numbers. Numbers one through ten are so foundational you can afford to review it a lot. Both flashcards and games work well for teaching this lesson. The Dice Game works well for numbers, and the Clothes Pin Game teaches counting.

Also, you can just practice counting things with your students. You can count all sorts of objects: pencils, balls, whatever. One pencil, two pencils... all the way to ten pencils.

Teaching Hint:

It's a good idea to teach the numbers 11 and 12 with the lesson. Even though 11 and 12 are not taught on this DVD, teaching them now helps students transition into the teen numbers. Students can count to ten with relative ease; adding eleven and twelve makes a strong connection between 1 to 10 and bigger numbers.
